6-Month Volunteer Opportunity to Support Ukrainian English Teachers

ENGin for Educators is a special program from ENGin that strives to address a root cause of Ukrainian students' struggles with English: English teachers who are not confident English speakers. Our participants are all English educators from Ukraine seeking to improve their speaking and professional skills.

Over six months, you'll connect with a Ukrainian teacher through weekly 1-hour one-on-one video chats at a time that works best for you. You’ll help your assigned teacher improve their English fluency while exchanging global teaching insights and sharing experiences.

For this project, volunteers should have full-time work experience in education - any subject or age level works! You can also have experience in teacher training or curriculum development.

At this time, we are only accepting volunteers aged 21 and up.

The overall commitment is 6 months (March-end of August 2026).

The program is structured in two phases:

Phase 1: March-May 2026 (12 online sessions)

Focus: Education-Related Topics and Discussions

During this time, you should have 12 video meetings with Ukrainian educators. The main focus of your meetings should be educational topics based on our provided session materials. See the detailed program overview here. (Please note: you are not expected to be an expert on or “teach” these topics - instead, you will explore them together with your matched educator!)

Phase 2: June–August 2026 (12 online sessions)

Focus: Conversations on Any Topic of Interest

After the main part of the program, educators are invited to continue conversation practice with you for another 3 months. This phase offers open-ended discussions, giving you the freedom to explore topics of personal interest while continuing to enhance your students’ English. For the program's second phase, you can use session materials from our standard ENGin program.

One meeting with your educator should take 60 minutes. You can make your meetings a little longer if you feel the need to do so.

Yes, you can be matched with 2 or 3 educators, depending on your time availability and preferences you mention in the registration form. You will meet with each educator separately, though occasional group meetings are allowed by mutual agreement during Phase 2.

The program officially starts in March 2026. You will receive an email about being matched in late February or early March. You can start sessions with the educator as soon as you get that email and session materials. It is not a problem if you are matched earlier or later than the official start of the program.

We will match you with an educator who has expressed similar scheduling preferences. Once matched, you should contact your educator and agree on a meeting time that’s convenient for you both.

ENGin 4EDU covers topics such as lifelong learning, modern educational approaches, creativity and innovation in education, hard and soft skills for teachers, digital literacy and AI usage for learning, ethical education, diversity, equity, inclusiveness, self-сare and well-being in the educational area, and others. The link to the program materials will be shared with you via email after you are matched with an educator. The session materials are supplemented with all the instructions and supporting materials needed.

We encourage you to use ENGin's session materials as a foundation for your discussions on education topics. These resources include carefully selected articles, discussion questions, and practical activities. While they provide structure and guidance, you’re welcome to adapt them based on your educator’s interests and needs. The main goal is to exchange teaching experiences, explore different approaches, and share best practices on the suggested topics.

Our Ukrainian educators are eligible for official professional development credits - we will communicate this information to them when we onboard them into the program.

All Participants can get a certificate of Professional Development from ENGin4EDU.

• 30-hour Professional Development Certificate: requires attending all 12 online meetings in Phase 1 and completing 5 or more optional tasks.

• 20-hour Professional Development Certificate: requires attending all 12 online meetings in Phase 1 and completing 3–4 optional tasks.

• 15-hour Professional Development Certificate: requires attending all 12 online meetings in Phase 1 and completing 2 optional tasks.

• 12-hour Professional Development Certificate: requires attending all 12 online meetings in Phase 1 and completing 1 optional task.

Teachers of English in secondary schools, colleges, vocational schools, and educational centers will also be able to get official ECTS as part of their individual development.

• 30-hour Professional Development Certificate = 1 ECTS credit

• 20-hour Professional Development Certificate = 0.7 ECTS credit

• 15-hour Professional Development Certificate = 0.4 ECTS credit

12-hour Professional Development Certificate = 0.3 ECTS credit

Optional tasks are activities that Ukrainian educators can complete independently outside of your meetings. The optional tasks are connected with the session topic. These tasks are designed to support their professional development and are required if they wish to earn a specific type of ENGin4EDU certificate.

Educators can choose which tasks to complete based on their interests and the level of professional certificate they’d like to receive. Once finished, they must submit their completed work via Google Forms to the ENGin team. As a volunteer, you are not responsible for checking or evaluating these tasks.

No, you are not. After being matched with your educator, you will be given materials to prepare for the sessions, thus having time to prepare for the meeting. Volunteers are not expected to teach the topics; rather, the sessions are an opportunity to explore them together.
